NEW SHOW FOR THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY BRINGS INDUSTRY TRADE TO PHUKET’S DOORSTEP

The Phuket International Hospitality Show will run 24-26 September 2009 at the RPM International Exhibition & Conference Center and promises to be the leading hospitality trade event for the region. The show aims to attract more than 1,000 trade and business professionals from the hospitality and tourism industry.

In recent years, Phuket has become the leading tourist destination in Southeast Asia with 5 million visitors per annum. The Phuket hospitality market is among the strongest in the region and has one of the largest concentrations of international five-star hotels and resorts. A recent research study of hotel and restaurant professionals on the island of Phuket and in the region has shown a demand for an annual international Hospitality event to showcase the latest products and services available, and provide an annual meeting place for the industry.

There are over 650 hotels on Phuket and more than 50,000 people employed in hotels alone. This fast growing industry sees 20 projects (3,300 rooms) in the works as of Q3 2008.

According to Bill Barnett of C9 Hotelworks, “Currently on the island, there are nearly 40,000 rooms in registered tourism establishments, ranging from guest houses up through to branded hotels with approximately 10,000 of these, or 25 percent of the total supply, being international-star rated. Adding to the new inventory there will be an increase by 50 percent of the existing international standard units, with 47 percent being upscale and luxury hotels, 41 percent midscale, 9 percent budget/economy, and 3 percent extended stay (villas/condos). 2009 is set to see the largest surge in supply with 38 percent or 1,850 new rooms scheduled to open.”

Against this background, Informa Yacht Group (IYG), a division of IIR Exhibitions Singapore, is inviting the hospitality trade (food & drink, hotel/resort, bar/club, restaurant & foodservice equipment, supplies & services) from Phuket and the neighbouring provinces of Krabi, Phang Nga and Surat Thani to visit the show at the RPM International Exhibition & Conference Center just ahead of the tourist high season. International exhibitors and visitors from all over Thailand and other Asean countries are expected to fill the exhibition hall that can accommodate 120 booths.

National and international industry press are expected to join alongside local media partners to support the show.
